We covered a ton!
1. This semester’s major fundraiser will be the Spring Soak, right before Spring Break. This just a heads up, but more information will be announced as we get closer to the date. It's going to be super fun, so look forward to it!
2. We still have 5 full boxes of See’s Candies lollipops left to sell throughout the semester. 100% of the profit will be going to UNICEF. Let any of the presidents know if you’re interested in getting some and selling them to people. We will also be trying to sell them during Open House, but we NEED to sell all 5 boxes by the end of the semester.
Quick reminder: Remember, UNICEF is an organization that aims to provide children all around the world with the resources that they need. Thus, as a high school club, our main goal/purpose is to raise money for the organization (last semester, we had three pretty successful fundraisers: Trick-or-Treat, Souplantation, and See's Candies). And that's what we're going to continue to do!
3. M4D! The M4D (Movies 4 Development) Competition is officially under way! As of right now, there is only one group interested in the video competition. We hope more of you are willing to participate ☺ Feel free to contact us if you're interested!
For those of you who don't know what M4D is, it is an annual competition held by UNICEF's High School Program. Every year, members in groups of three from UNICEF high school clubs all across the nation submit 60-second videos on a certain topic that UNICEF chooses. Three winning groups are able to attend UNICEF's Annual Meeting held in New York City! We're proud to say that Valencia High School has had a winning group for two straight years, so we really hope that we can keep up our streak.
This year, the topic is CHILD PROTECTION. Here are the basic rules:
- A group must consist of at least one boy and one girl.
- There can be more than one group submitting a video from one club.
- Every member does NOT have to be part of our club, but must register on Action Center before submitting the video (ask/message if you need help).
- Along with the video, you will be writing a SHORT-answer essay explaining the importance of UNICEF’s work in the area of Child Protection.
The deadline for submissions is MARCH 7TH!
For more information:
- Make sure to visit www.unicefusa.org/m4d
- Feel free to contact Chaereen, Ceridwen, Eugenia, or Aimiel.
This is last year's winning submission from our club, on the topic of global citizenship. No, the video does not have to be animated: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lTT6pkK7EU
This is an amazing opportunity for you to really get to know what kind of organization UNICEF is and what we, as a club, are working towards!
4. Last week, we had the “Human Rights Watch” club come in and speak to us about an opportunity to help protect children’s right. All you need to do is: click this attachment, scroll down to the last page, print out and sign the form, and allow the club to take a picture of you holding a sign (provided) on Tuesday at the end of the meeting. For more information, just look up “Human Rights Watch.” UNICEF supports it as well. We hope many of you will participate!
5. You can still turn in your hour sheets to count for the PVSA award! Remember, this semester is 20 hours for membership commitment.
