Meeting Recap: 1/22/18

Hi UNICEF members!! I hope you guys had a relaxing winter break and a stress free start to the semester. Today was our first UNICEF meeting of the semester, in Mr. McKee's room as always. If you weren't here or want to catch up on what happened, here's a recap of what we discussed at the meeting.

1. January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month, so we'll be focusing on that topic for our next few meetings. We showed this video about a teen migrant sold into prostitution, and in future meetings, we will be discussing how to raise awareness and help victims of human trafficking.

2. There will be a fundraiser at The Habit on January 29th from 4 pm - 10 pm to raise money for our club. If you go and bring a receipt to the next meeting, you will receive TWO service hours. (Service hour sheets can be found here)

3. If you are having trouble finding ways to get service hours, talk to our president, Neha.

4. Also, there will be new opportunities to get involved with UNICEF this semester. If you are interested in discussing a certain issue during club meetings, helping out with a video that we are making, or have any ideas, you should also talk to our president, Neha

Our next meeting will be on Monday, February 5th, in Mr. McKee's room (516). Follow our social media at @vhsunicef (Instagram) and @valenciaUNICEF (Twitter) for club photos and important updates. See you at the next meeting!!!!

Meeting Recap: 11/20

Hi UNICEF members!!

Here's a recap of today's meeting:

1. Trick or Treat boxes were due today, but if you still need to turn in your boxes, please contact our president, Neha. Our goal for this year's ToT boxes was $3,000, and our total money raised will be announced next week. Thanks so much to all members for raising money that will go towards helping underprivileged children globally.

2. We have a Panda Express fundraiser TODAY!!!! Go to the Panda Express on Newhall Ranch (by Chipotle) any time today, November 20th, and some of the proceeds will be donated to VHS Unicef. You can bring your receipts from the fundraiser to our next meeting to get ONE service hour. Please go and support our club!! :)

3. We are having a winter party in collaboration with Humanitarian Network, Red Cross Club, and Make a Wish!! It will be held in the MPR on December 11th, and hour sheets will be due then. All proceeds made from this party will be donated to helping people who were in the Iran-Iraq earthquake. More information about this party will be available next meeting.

4. HOUR SHEETS will be due at our winter party on December 11th. If you need to print out an hour sheet, go to the resources tab on this blog or click THIS link. If you need any hours signed off by our presidents or Mr. Mckee, please bring your hour sheets NEXT meeting so they're not super stressed out. Also, if you want to be eligible for the President's Volunteer Service Award, remember to circle that on your hour sheet.

Our next meeting will be Monday, December 1st, in Mr. McKee's room. See you then!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

11/06/17: Meeting Recap

Hi, UNICEF members! Here’s a recap of today’s meeting:

1. Trick or Treat boxes will be due next meeting, November 20th. You will receive one service hour for each box turned in. We’re partnering with Key Club to raise money for underprivileged children globally. Our goal is $3,000, so be sure to donate any spare change you have and spread the word!!

2. We’re having a fundraiser at Panda Express this month on November 20th. Please go there and tell your friends so we can support our club! :))

3. During our meeting, Sanjana showed this video about how climate change affects children around the world. From natural disasters and pollution to the creeping impacts of rising sea levels and changing rainfall patterns, climate change threatens children’s most basic rights, including their health, access to food and water, education – even their survival. UNICEF is working to reduce the impact of climate change on vulnerable children by building natural disaster proof schools, raising money for relief efforts, protecting vital water supplies, and empowering children to take action.

4. If you haven’t been getting text messages for UNICEF on Remind, please contact our co-presidents or VP of Communications, Lily, so you can be added and informed about future meetings/events.

Our next meeting will be Monday, November 20th, in Mr. McKee’s room (516). See you then!
