11/26/15 MEETING

THANK YOU FOR COMING TODAY!!

I really appreciate the time you guys sacrifice to come and just spend time as UNIFAM.

I apologize for the really serious and depressing message, but that is reality. Here is the link about the survivor in the Paris attacks:

Remember to be grateful for the very things we take for granted. Because in our lives, we may never even be in such a tragic event.

I posted 2 pics on the topic of what happened over the weekend on my instagram so if you want to read them you can look me up @krewellic.

See you guys next Monday!

10/26/15 MEETING // LETS GET IT GOINGGG

Hey guys, what's up! It's your UNICEF President Eric.

As my position speaks for myself, I am here to guide you guys through the year and provide a humbling experience that might bring out something in you. You are as valuable to me as I am to the club. Keep in mind that we are all UNIFAM. With that being said, let's talk about a couple things.

First off, going off last year, I wanted to continue collaborating with schools. What that means is neighboring elementary schools would create some sort of program or event that allows students to donate money to UNICEF, just like the Trick-Or-Treat program we are currently endorsing. Last year, West Creek Academy called their program "Penny Wars." and raised $1460!!! The Valencia Club itself raised around 880 Through the Trick or Treat Boxes.
However, the past month has been quite difficult to get a hold of the principal of the school(s) because they are busy with meetings, etc.

Regarding our own school, I plan to stick Trick-Or-Treat boxes in almost every classroom so we can try to make some more money. I HOPE you guys are filling up a lot of boxes because most of you haven't been asking for more.

Secondly, each Month I am planning to make the club revolve around a certain "theme." Of course this month is October, so Trick or Treating is big. Next month will be a different theme, so I will keep you posted on that.

The point of the "10 hours by the end of the semester" is to expose you guys to an environment where you give, but do not take or receive. This is important not only for providing for others, but also providing for yourself. Now you may be wondering, what do I get from this? What you get, is a sense of joy and purpose, a greater connection to the community, and solving problems we care about.
As a human, it's important to be kind, compassionate, and loving towards others. That's just what we were born to do. To help one another in expectance of something greater later.

What I want to say last is what you guys are doing is truly one of a kind. It's humbling to see you guys give up a small portion of the week to spend time with me, and everyone else in the room to talk about how we can provide for others.

If you want to know a couple things about me, here are some "fun facts." For fun, I love skateboarding, discovering new music, and spending time with my friends.

I am also currently in a Model United Nations class at COC. If you are interested in International Relations or anything of that sort, you can come and talk to me about it. It's a challenging course, but it's what I love doing.

A BIG part of who I am as a person is shown through the usage of my instagram. I post inspirational/motivational/random stuff about life, and post pretty cool pictures, so if you want, you can check it out @krewellic.

Part of being a leader arises from learning from others and bonding with others. And that's what I plan doing with you guys. So if you ever have questions on things other than UNCIEF, PLEAASSEEEEE come talk to me. It will make me really happy.

With all that said, I hope to have a great year with you guys. Thank you for everything.

5/27/15 Final Meeting

Hello everyone! This is Chaereen. Thank you to those who stopped by our very last meeting of the year. Hour sheets were collected; if you forgot it, you may scan it and email it to valenciaUNICEF@gmail.com. PVSA hours will be inputted in the coming weeks, and awards will be handed out next semester. Graduation cords were also handed out to our seniors who have been a part of UNICEF for 2+ years. And finally, the new executive board for the 2015-2016 year was announced! Congratulations to our new officers. Eric and Grace, I am so excited for you two!
Now, as the immediate past president, I'd like to say a big, big thank you to each and every one of you. This year has been absolutely incredible. We've grown so much as not only a club but also a family. Guys, we raised over $2,500 this entire year. That's insane! From visiting West Creek to the Open House Bake Sale, VHS UNICEF has made lasting impacts on the lives of others. We witnessed children helping children. I have been a part of this amazing organization for four years now, and UNICEF truly has a special place in my heart. Of course, we still have lots to improve. I'm looking forward to the many new and exciting things this club is going to do next year!
Thank you for an awesome four years, VHS UNICEF! It was an honor to be your president this year. I will always be here for you guys :)

3/3/15 Meeting: Tap Project is LIVE

  • It's finally March, and March means... the UNICEF Tap Project is back! Every 15 minutes without your phone equates to ONE day of clean water for a child. Put down your phone. Challenge your friends to do the same. You'll both be providing safe, clean drinking water to children in need worldwide: uniceftapproject.org
  • You will get one service hour... every time you can complete one hour without your phone! You can get a maximum of  four hours for NHS; just write "UNICEF Tap Project" and have Chaereen or Mr. McKee sign your hour sheet.
  • There is no limit to how many hours you can receive for your UNICEF hour sheets :)
  • To verify your hours, take a screenshot of however many hours you end up completing and send it to our email: valenciaUNICEF@gmail.com.

2/17/15 Meeting

Hey guys! Just one big announcement today: Next week is the big meeting where our guests from NYC are coming :) Don't forget to attend!

Tuesday, February 10, 2015

2/10/15 Meeting

  1. The special guest presentation date is coming closer! Today we got a head count of how many people can attend the meeting on February 24th (two weeks from today). If you weren't able to attend today's meeting but you know that you can make it on the 24th, please email us ASAP!
  2. This is an exciting opportunity for my current officers ONLY: UNICEF has just released the new applications for the 2015-2016 National Council. Our president, Chaereen, is currently one of the six members of the 2014-2015 National Council. She was able to visit New York City back in August to attend a training session, and will be returning to NYC in May to attend UNICEF's Annual Meeting. The next National Council has even bigger commitments: not only will you be attending a training session in New York City in July, but you will also be visiting Washington D.C. in April and Germany in May! You must be able to attend all three of these events in order to apply for a position. A National Council member is in charge of all the high school clubs in a certain region. Chaereen is currently maintaining all high school clubs in Southern California and Hawaii. She's also one of the members in charge of social media, so she regularly updates the official High School Clubs Facebook and Twitter. Being a National Council member is a big responsibility, but also a very rewarding one. To learn more, and to apply, click HERE.
  3. And, just a heads up that officer applications and interviews for our club next year will begin in May. Those of you interested in becoming a part of the leadership board, make sure to apply!

2/3/15 Meeting

Hey guys! Sorry about the confusion at this meeting (forgot to tell McKee that we had one). It won't happen again. Moving on:

  1. We raised around $100 for Typhoon Hagupit relief through our pizza party last semester!
  2. Please make sure to come to next week's meeting, because there's going to be a sign-up sheet passed around for the meeting with our special guests on February 24th. We need a head count of how many people are going to attend!
  3. Next month in March, we're going to participate in the Tap Project's mobile phone campaign again, where you go for a certain number of hours without your phone. Look forward to that and more service hour opportunities!
That's it! Have a great week.
